I recently came back from my 3rd trip to Cancun with my boyfriend. Mexico is always a good time! The trip started off rough, though. Delta couldn’t find our connecting flight so we missed our original flight to Mexico. We were supposed to get to Cancun on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. but didn’t end up getting there until 9 p.m. that night. We were mad but knew we had to make the best out of our time there.
We always stay at an adult-only, all inclusive resort. It’s definitely the best way to go. We partied once we got in to start the vacation off right. The next morning, we woke up early to get breakfast and catch our boat cruise we had already paid for. It was open bar and included snorkeling and a trip to Isla Mujeres Island where we had a buffet lunch. I got sun burned from staying out all day but it was worth it.

The next day was our tour to Chichen Itza which was the highlight of the trip. It was a 2-hour bus ride to Yucatan, MX. Even though it wasn’t my first time in Mexico, I had never done real “touristy” things. But this trip was well worth the wait. I purchased the tour on Expedia through Amigo Tours, which was great. We stopped for lunch and then went to the Mayan site where our tour guide gave us a brief history of the ruin.

Once we left Chichen Itza, it began to rain. But we still headed to the cenote (sinkhole) to swim which was included in our tour. I was ready to dive in after all of that heat! Once we got there, it had stopped raining.
At the cenote, you could rent lockers, towels, etc. They also sold snacks and had a restaurant. You had to shower before getting in since it’s fresh water and they don’t want to pollute it. The cenote is very different from the ocean. It’s not saltwater and it’s also a lot calmer, so I had no problem getting in.

The water felt so good, but it was easy to get tired from trying to stay afloat since it’s not saltwater – that’s why they suggested using a life jacket if you weren’t a good swimmer. It was a great experience, though.
After this, we were ready to get back to Cancun. We slept the whole way back.

The next day was Sunday, our last full day in Cancun, so we wanted to make the best out of our time.

It was SO HOT, hence my facial expression, lol. We stayed in the pool all day – ate and drank. We briefly went to the beach, just to check it out.
That night was Throwback Night at our resort. I was so tired so I barely participated but it was my boyfriends birthday so I wanted to celebrate.
Our flight left at 7 a.m. the next morning so we had to catch the shuttle at 4 a.m. (crazy, I know). I will definitely book a later flight the next time.
We enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait to go back even though I’m ready to experience some other parts of Mexico like Cabo. That’s on the list for next year.
