All the things I love

Dallas, Texas for New Years

January 21, 2019

To bring in the new year, we (my boyfriend and I) decided to do something different and go to a place we’ve never been to – Dallas, TX. We ended up flying into Houston and driving to Dallas the weekend of NYE.

We stayed at The Highland Dallas – which was really nice! It had a shopping area right across the street + a large spa, restaurant and cafe connected to the hotel. Since it was my first time here, I asked for recommendations on places to go, restaurants, etc. One of those places was Velvet Taco.

These weren’t just regular street tacos – I tried the fish & chips, chicken & waffle and spicy tikka chicken tacos, while TJ had the shrimp & grits, bacon & egg and bacon burger tacos – they were all so good. And of course, we had their frozen margaritas!

That night we met up with some friends and went out to Stars and Spirits, which was packed.

The next afternoon, we met up with everyone for brunch at Meddlesome Moth.

I had the Mother & Son Reunion (fried chicken breast, grits, jalapeno sauce and a poached egg)

TJ had one of the specials which was a whiskey maple donut that had a fried egg, bacon and cheese

While the food was good and the mimosa carafe’s were flowing, I got really sick that night until the next day (NYE) and I’m pretty sure it’s from what I ate. Thankfully I started to feel better before the next evening and we got a chance to slide in a little bit of exploring. We went to Deep Elum – an artsy district that a lot of people recommended for their bars, restaurants and lounges. We literally only had like an hour to check it our before we had to get ready for dinner that night.

That night, we had dinner reservations at Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse downtown. They had a three-course prix fixie menu for NYE (like many restaurants). I had a fried lobster tail, salmon and veggies and red velvet lave cake (which I didn’t get to eat). I didn’t get any pictures – and the food was just okay.

We had already bought tickets for a party that night at Union Station in downtown Dallas right by the Reunion Tower.

We ended up having a fun night and then had to leave early in the morning to catch our flight :(. Our trip wasn’t long enough – I definitely have to go back to Dallas soon!

I have a lot of trip planned for this year, so stay tuned!
