So my friend decided to celebrate her birthday in LA during Memorial Day Weekend and it was a nice getaway. The last time I was in LA I was 19 and with my mom. I did a lot of sightseeing and shopping (my mom is a great shopping buddy) but I got to do some different things this time. We decided to stay from Saturday through Tuesday of Memorial Day Weekend.
When my best friend and I arrived, we had to wait for the rest of the crew so we had brunch in the airport to kill time. Once everyone got there in the after noon, we figured it would make a lot of sense to rent a car. We got a really good deal at the airport and headed to our Airbnb. On the way there, we stopped at a random taco truck and fruit stand. I wasn’t in the mood for tacos but I wanted to try one of the fruit cups I always see on social media.
We had already purchased tickets for Candytopia in Santa Monica for 6 p.m. Once everyone got settled, it was time to get ready to head there. It’s similar to Museum of Ice Cream, but everything’s made out of candy and there was a ton to take with us.
While Candytopia was cool and there were a few photo ops, I was expecting more based on Instagram (lol). It was something fun to do to start off our trip, though.
Since we were in Santa Monica, we decided to go to a rooftop bar. Hotel Shangri-La wasn’t too far from where we were and my friend had seen their rooftop bar, Onyx, while looking for places in Santa Monica to go to. This bar had a really good vibe and while it was chilly, I had to check out the rooftop view where you can see the Pier and beach. They also had really good food – we had chicken lettuce wraps, truffle fries and of course, margaritas.
I’m not going to lie, we were jet lagged after leaving Santa Monica – I think we all took a small nap. Only three of us woke back up and headed to Hollywood Hookah for a chill night.
The next morning, we planned to go to Runyon Canyon to start the day – which was really fun.
After leaving the Canyon we were hot! But wanted to do some shopping before dinner. I was able to find another outfit for dinner.
We started my friend’s birthday celebration with dinner at Catch LA, which I highly recommend. I loved the views and atmosphere.

That night, we had a table at Playhouse Nightclub where DJ Esco would be making an appearance. It was a really fun night – I feel like we were in our own little world (lol).
On that Monday, we were really feeling the time difference. I think everyone was tired but we wanted to make the best out of our trip.
We had brunch at Sweet Chick on Fairfax. This cool brunch spot had a NY feel and the food was really good.

Honestly I was ready to take a nap after this but we planned to go to the W Hollywood’s pool party. The hotel and views were nice but we decided to leave after a while and go to the pool at our Airbnb where we could make our own drinks. We were too tired to go out that night but we had fun in the jacuzzi, ordered Uber Eats and chilled the rest of the night.
The next day before our flight, we had some time to kill after everyone else left. My best friend and I went to this cute little cafe by our Airbnb called Met Her at a Bar.

After our brunch, we went to Hollywood Blvd. to get some souvenirs and then headed to the airport. We had a really good time and I’m sure we’ll be back soon. There’s a lot more things that we want to check off our list.
